Category Manager (Energy)

Role Overview:

Our client, a global organisation with a strong sustainability agenda, is seeking a Category Manager (Energy) to lead the strategic sourcing and category management of electricity, gas, and renewable energy across a diverse portfolio. This role is critical in optimising cost, managing risk, and aligning procurement with decarbonisation and ESG goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute category strategies for energy procurement, including fixed, flexible, and renewable supply contracts
  • Lead supplier selection, contract negotiations, and performance management
  • Analyse market trends, regulatory developments, and risk factors to inform sourcing decisions
  • Collaborate with finance, legal, operations, and sustainability teams to align energy sourcing with business objectives
  • Drive innovation in energy procurement, including PPAs, green tariffs, and carbon offset strategies
  • Monitor and report on category performance, savings, and sustainability impact
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements

Essential Experience:

  • Degree in Supply Chain, Energy Management, Business, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in category management or strategic sourcing, preferably in the energy or utilities sector
  • Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills
  • In-depth knowledge of energy markets, procurement strategies, and risk management
  • Proficiency in procurement tools (e.g., SAP Ariba, Coupa) and data analysis

Desirable:

  • Experience with renewable energy sourcing and corporate PPAs
  • Familiarity with sustainability frameworks (e.g., SBTi, RE100, ISO 20400)
  • Professional certifications such as CIPS, CEM, or ISO 50001
